Central and Local Government Working Together
Our role in the Community Outcomes Processes

The Department of Internal Affairs facilitates contact between local authorities and government agencies involved in the Community Outcomes Processes (COP).

Local authorities have a role in achieving community outcomes for their citizens for the economic, environmental, social and cultural wellbeing of communities, under the Local Government Act 2002. Some central government agencies also have a role in this.

How can we help you?

We have a dedicated team who liaise with local authorities and government agencies. The team has key responsibility to:

  • Provide information and support to local authorities and central government agencies involved in the Community Outcomes Processes.
  • Facilitate contact between local authorities and government agencies, through our relationship managers, and this website.
  • Collate examples of good practice and make them available through our website, annual workshop and other means.

We administer a directory of central government agencies to help local authorities make contact with those in central government.
